About this colour

This shade reads as a rich brown with muted olive and taupe undertones, so it feels grounded and earthy on a wall. It absorbs a good amount of light, which gives it depth and makes it particularly effective where you want a room to feel settled. In a north-facing room it will look cooler and more shadowed, bringing out its brown-grey side; in south light it warms up and shows more of its soft umber character. Beside pale linens, mushroom tones, oak, walnut and aged brass, it gives a calm, tailored contrast. It also works well on woodwork where you want a darker frame without the harshness of true black.

How to use it

Use it in a study, snug or dining room where a deeper neutral can make the space feel composed. It suits natural woodwork, tan leather, oatmeal upholstery and curtains in undyed wool or linen.

A deep neutral like this gives a room weight and warmth without feeling stark.
