About this colour

This #3B3B3D shade reads as a cool, low-light charcoal with a muted blue-grey edge, so it absorbs most of the light and keeps a room feeling enclosed and grounded. In north-facing light it can turn slightly deeper and more shadowed, emphasising its cool side, while in south-facing rooms it lifts a little and shows a gentler grey note. On walls it gives a firm, tailored backdrop in Active Emulsion, and in Waterbased Eggshell it works well on joinery where you want the same dark tone with a clean painted finish. It sits neatly beside pale oak, walnut, chalk white, putty, ink blue and tobacco-toned upholstery, where the contrast feels crisp rather than harsh.

How to use it

Use it in a study, hallway or sitting room where you want depth on the walls or a darker note on trim. It pairs especially well with pale natural woodwork, deep leather, brushed brass and upholstery in oatmeal, stone, navy or moss tones.

On a wall, Burn Black Light reads as a cool, deep charcoal that gives a room weight without looking fully black.
