About this colour

This shade reads as a muted brown with a cool grey undertone, so it has depth without looking red or orange. In north-facing light it can feel darker and more restrained, with the grey side becoming more noticeable. In south-facing rooms it warms up a little and shows more of its brown base, while still staying calm and subdued. On walls it absorbs a fair amount of light, which makes it useful when you want a room to feel anchored; on woodwork, the colour gives a firm, tailored edge beside natural timber, camel upholstery, charcoal velvet or pale linen.

How to use it

Tabac suits sitting rooms, studies and hallways where you want a colour that can hold its own beside oak, walnut and painted joinery. It works well with creamy curtains, tobacco leather and muted patterned upholstery in sage, rust or stone.
