About this fabric

Part of Ashley Wilde’s Darwin Collection, Austen Clay is composed of 90% recycled polyester and 10% polyester, with a 140cm width and a weight of 200gsm. The swatch shows a calm clay brown with a gently striated weave that catches the light in fine, subtle lines rather than a flat solid finish. At 280 grams per linear metre, it has enough substance for elegant drapes while remaining a clearly textile, not a heavy upholstery cloth. The overall effect is warm, muted and easy to live with, with just enough texture to keep the plain surface interesting.

How to use it

Use this clay brown beside oak, rattan and chalky paint colours for a soft, natural scheme. It works especially well where you want a warm window dressing that feels understated rather than overly dark.

A warm clay tone that softens windows and layers easily with natural woods and textured neutrals.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
