Derain Burgundy/Amethyst is a dense, richly mottled textile in which wine-dark burgundy meets cool amethyst, blue-violet and finely scattered pale accents. Its intricate surface gives the colourway a deep, almost mineral-like presence.

About this fabric

The irregular woven motif is visibly layered, with burgundy and plum-brown passages broken by cool amethyst, blue-violet and small cream highlights. At 783gsm and 108 threads per centimetre, the cloth has a notably substantial, compact handle suited to upholstery. The 141cm usable width provides generous coverage, while the pattern repeats over 25cm vertically and 34cm horizontally. Light catches the varied threads unevenly, bringing small flashes of violet and pale contrast through the otherwise dark, saturated ground.

How to use it

Use this colourway on a statement armchair, sofa or headboard where its deep burgundy ground can anchor a room. Balance the cool amethyst and blue-violet notes with smoked wood, aged brass or warm neutral walls rather than introducing another strong red.

A substantial, richly mottled weave that brings deep burgundy, amethyst and blue-violet depth to upholstered furniture.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
