Nippon grey
Kyotogardens Fabricnippon/fa1/bam
Nippon Grey shows a soft, misty ground with airy tree silhouettes drifting across the cloth. The palette feels cool and muted, letting the botanical drawing stand out without looking heavy.

About this fabric
Woven in 82% viscose and 18% linen, this fabric has a light 117gsm handle that suits curtains, blinds and soft furnishings. The usable width is 133cm, with a full width of 138cm, and the design repeats every 66.5cm horizontally and 55.5cm vertically. In this colourway, the pale grey background reads calm and chalky, while the stems and leaf clusters appear in layered olive-grey, charcoal and soft sage outlines. The overall effect is delicate rather than stark, with the natural slub and matte finish helping the pattern feel grounded and refined.
How to use it
Use Nippon Grey where you want the botanical motif to stay understated: it works especially well in rooms with pale timber, limewashed walls or brushed metal accents. The cool grey ground keeps large windows and relaxed schemes feeling light, while the tree pattern adds movement.
Best for quietly layered curtains or blinds with a soft, natural feel.

Pairs well with
A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Nippon grey without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it
Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
