About this colour

At #585858, Graphite reads as a balanced mid grey with a slight cool edge, but it is not hard or blue. It holds its depth well on a wall, so it absorbs a fair amount of light without dropping to near-black. In a north-facing room it can feel more restrained and architectural, while in south light it opens out and shows its greyer, softer side. In Active Emulsion or Waterbased Eggshell, it works neatly beside pale linen, warm oak, blackened metal and darker patterned upholstery, where its steadiness gives the room structure.

How to use it

Use Graphite on panelled walls, joinery or a study where you want the colour to stay calm and grounded. It pairs well with natural woodwork, deep green or rust upholstery, and off-white curtains.

Graphite gives a wall a settled, medium-dark grey tone that stays clear without feeling cold.
