About this colour

At #AB9B8C, English Toffee reads as a warm mid-tone taupe, with enough brown in it to feel settled and enough grey to stop it turning sugary or red. It absorbs more light than it reflects, so on a wall it gives a room a quiet, enclosed feel rather than a bright one. In a north-facing room it can cool slightly and show more of its grey side, which makes it read more restrained. In south-facing light the warmth comes forward and the colour feels richer, with the brown notes becoming more visible beside oak, walnut, stone and aged brass. In Acrylic Eggshell, Elite Emulsion or True Matt, it works especially well where you want the walls or woodwork to sit neatly alongside woven neutrals, tobacco leathers and muted printed curtains.

How to use it
