About this colour

At #C9B9AA, Pale Umber reads as a warm, light taupe with enough grey in it to stop the colour from feeling sugary or yellow. It reflects light quietly rather than bouncing it, so it keeps a room settled and even. In a north-facing room it can look slightly cooler and more restrained, bringing out its grey-beige side. In south-facing light it warms up and becomes more honeyed, sitting comfortably beside painted trim in the same family or deeper brown woodwork. The shade works well in Acrylic Eggshell on joinery, or in Elite Emulsion and True Matt on walls where a softer, flatter look is wanted.

How to use it

Pale Umber suits sitting rooms, halls and bedrooms where a calm neutral is needed alongside walnut, oak or dark-stained furniture. It also sits neatly with linen-coloured upholstery, camel tones and muted rust or olive fabrics.
