Enigmatic Black Earth/First Light

Indoor Outdoor Prints OutdoorHAF0556-02

Enigmatic Black Earth/First Light sets dense, ink-black brushwork against a pale ivory ground. The irregular marks form oversized rounded cells, with a distressed, speckled surface that keeps the monochrome contrast from feeling flat.

About this fabric

The design is built from broad black bands and tangled, painterly edges surrounding pale ivory shapes, while fine dark flecks show through the lighter areas. At 220gsm, it is a substantial outdoor textile suited to upholstery applications. The usable width is 139 cm, with a 58 cm vertical repeat and a 139 cm horizontal repeat. Supplied in a standard 35 m length, the pattern has enough scale and contrast to read clearly across larger upholstered forms.

How to use it

Pair this black-and-ivory colourway with plain charcoal, chalk or warm stone cushions to echo its dramatic contrast without competing with the oversized pattern. It would bring a graphic, gallery-like quality to outdoor sofas, dining chairs or occasional seating.

Use this high-contrast black-and-ivory design to give outdoor seating a graphic, artful edge.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
