About this colour

At #3E3E40, this shade reads as a cool-to-neutral charcoal with a muted black base and just enough grey in it to lift the surface slightly. In north-facing light it can look more sombre and blue-grey, absorbing much of the available light; in south-facing rooms it softens and shows its charcoal depth more clearly. On walls, True Matt will make it feel the darkest and most settled, while Acrylic Eggshell and Elite Emulsion give a little more reflection without changing the colour. It sits well beside pale oak, walnut, brass, and off-white joinery, and it gives strong definition next to patterned curtains or upholstered pieces in cream, tobacco, moss, or slate tones.

How to use it

Use Vine Black on panelled walls, a study, or joinery where you want a grounded background for art and furniture. It works especially well with natural woodwork, deep green upholstery, and linen curtains in warm white or stone.

On a wall, Vine Black is a deep charcoal that feels quieter than pure black.
