Ruskin Old Blue

Ruskin II FabricF3923-05

Ruskin Old Blue is a pale, misty blue damask with a soft, chalky surface and gently shadowed pattern. The design reads quietly classical rather than bold, with the motif sitting close to the ground for a subtle all-over effect.

About this fabric

Woven in 53% viscose, 25% linen and 22% cotton, this fabric has a refined handle that suits both upholstery and drapery use. The colourway is a muted powder blue with a cool grey cast, so the raised pattern appears only slightly darker than the ground and never feels harsh. With an approximate width of 142cm and a large repeat of V 64cm / H 36cm, the damask motif has enough scale to show clearly across larger pieces. The overall look is calm and slightly weathered, with a soft matte quality that keeps the surface understated.

How to use it

Pair this washed blue with limed oak, pale painted joinery or crisp white linen for a fresh traditional room. It is especially effective on a buttoned chair or full-length curtains where the soft blue tone can read as serene rather than sweet.

Use for elegant upholstery or curtains where a cool, airy blue is needed.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Ruskin Old Blue without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
