Porter & Stone

Babylon Smoke

Misc Fabric

Babylon Smoke has a dark, smoky ground lifted by a fine pale fleck that gives the pattern real depth. The repeating leaf-like motif reads crisp and textural rather than glossy.

About this fabric

Babylon Smoke from Porter & Stone is a fabric with a 140cm width, a 24cm pattern repeat, and a composition of 95% polyester and 5% lurex. The surface visible in the swatch is tightly woven and richly textured, with a smoky brown-taupe ground broken up by lighter speckling that traces the recurring motif. The subtle lurex content adds just a faint, low-key glint rather than a bright metallic finish, so the overall effect stays muted and grounded. Its dark neutral palette feels tailored and versatile, with enough pattern movement to add interest without overpowering a scheme.

How to use it

Use Babylon Smoke on an upholstered chair or banquette where its textured repeat can be seen up close. It sits well with tobacco leather, weathered oak and matte black accents, especially in a scheme that wants a cool-smoked brown rather than a warm beige.

Pair with warm woods and aged brass for a grounded, tailored look.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
