Chert Malachite

Defined Momentum Velvets VelvetHAF0633-02

Chert Malachite is a deep, cool green velvet with a closely worked tonal surface. Its dark malachite shade shifts subtly as the light catches the fine, rippling texture.

About this fabric

This Harlequin velvet weighs 495gsm and has a usable width of 143cm, giving the cloth a substantial presence for upholstery. Across the deep green ground, tightly spaced waved lines and tiny glinting marks create a restrained, almost mineral-like pattern rather than a bold graphic. The design has a 32.5cm vertical repeat and 36cm horizontal repeat, while the dense construction is recorded at 75.5 threads per centimetre. In changing light, the pile reveals muted green highlights against its shadowed malachite base.

How to use it

Pair Chert Malachite with warm timber, aged brass and chalky neutrals to balance its cool, saturated depth. It is especially effective on a tailored sofa, occasional chair or upholstered headboard where the tonal texture can read at close range.

Use this weighty malachite velvet on statement seating where its dark green depth and subtle surface movement can be appreciated.

Pairs well with

Chert Malachite is a quiet cloth, so it carries a pattern beside it: one of these on the curtains and this on the chair. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
