Chert Sapphire

Defined Momentum Velvets VelvetHAF0633-01

Chert Sapphire reads as a deep, cool sapphire blue across the swatch, enlivened by a tightly packed, broken linear weave. Small pale blue-grey highlights move irregularly through the surface, giving the velvet depth without introducing a contrasting motif.

About this fabric

Chert Sapphire is a cool, saturated blue velvet with a dense arrangement of pale blue-grey flecks and short, wavering horizontal lines. Its close texture gives the surface a softly nubby, dimensional appearance, while lighter threads catch across the darker sapphire ground. At 495 gsm and 143 cm usable width, this is a substantial cloth suited to upholstery. The design repeats every 32.5 cm vertically and 36 cm horizontally; the supplied standard length is 30 m and the cloth has 75.5 threads per cm.

How to use it

Pair this cool sapphire blue with chalky whites, pale timber and brushed metal for a crisp, contemporary scheme. On a sofa or statement chair, the small broken weave adds visual depth while keeping the saturated colour composed.

Use this cool sapphire blue velvet on occasional chairs, sofas or headboards where its finely textured surface can add depth without overpowering the room.

Pairs well with

Chert Sapphire is a quiet cloth, so it carries a pattern beside it: one of these on the curtains and this on the chair. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
