Niello Ink

Niello Ink has a deep blue-grey ground with closely packed, broken vertical markings that shift between charcoal, pale grey and soft chalk tones. The dense surface gives this colourway a cool, atmospheric depth.

About this fabric

The fabric appears richly textured, with fine vertical lines and irregular flecks creating a softly weathered, almost striated effect. Its dark ink tone is lifted by narrow pale grey highlights, so the surface changes subtly as the light catches the raised weave. At 579gsm and 118 threads per centimetre, it has the substantial visual and physical presence expected of an upholstery textile. The 126cm usable width is paired with a 48.5cm vertical repeat and 31.5cm horizontal repeat, while the standard length is 25m.

How to use it

Bring Niello Ink into a study, snug or contemporary living room on a structured sofa or deep buttoned chair. Pair its cool blue-grey depth with warm timber, aged brass and chalky neutrals to bring out the lighter flecks in the weave.

Use this weighty ink-blue textile on tailored upholstery, where its broken vertical texture adds depth without a bright contrast.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
