Painswick Red is a classic checked fabric with a warm, woven look in soft red, cream and fresh green accents. The plaid reads cosy and country-inspired, with the red lines giving the design its strongest visual rhythm.

About this fabric

Woven in 100% polyester, this fabric is specified for curtains, blinds and upholstery, with a 30,000 Martindale rub test that makes it practical as well as decorative. The swatch shows a creamy ground overlaid with red, sage green and touches of orange, creating a tartan-style check that feels inviting rather than harsh. At 420 gsm it has the substantial body you would expect from a fabric that can work on both windows and seating, while the 5 cm horizontal and vertical repeat keeps the check balanced and easy to read. Dry clean only care and a dry iron finish help maintain the crispness of the weave and the clarity of the pattern.

How to use it

Use this colourway to add warmth to a country armchair, bench cushion or lined curtain, especially in rooms with oak, painted wood or natural linens. The softened red sits comfortably with cream walls and earthy greens, lending a traditional feel without looking overly formal.

A warm tartan in soft red and cream that brings a cosy country feel to seating or curtains.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
