Brer Rabbit Red/Hemp

Little Book of Morris Fabrics FabricMOF0023-01

Brer Rabbit Red/Hemp combines a warm, muted brick-red ground with pale hemp botanical forms arranged in a dense, symmetrical repeat. The fine woven surface gives the colourway a softly textured, layered appearance rather than a flat red finish.

About this fabric

The intricate botanical pattern repeats every 40cm vertically and 27.5cm horizontally, creating closely spaced columns of stylised leaves, stems and floral details. At 290gsm, this is a substantial mid-weight fabric suited to both upholstery and drapery. Its 137cm usable width and 60m standard length support larger-scale cutting, while the 1.7 threads-per-cm specification corresponds with the visibly textured woven structure. The contrast between the subdued brick-red background and hemp-toned pattern gives this colourway a warm, heritage character with considerable visual depth.

How to use it

Use it on a reading-room armchair, footstool or full-length curtains where the brick-red ground can bring warmth and the hemp motifs can connect with natural timber, linen and aged brass.

Use the warm brick-red ground with pale hemp upholstery, curtains or cushions for a richly patterned Morris interior.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
