Firth purple

Ettrick Fabricfirth/fa1/gra

Firth Purple shows the Ettrick thistle motif on a calm, soft grey-purple ground. The sketchy floral heads bring gentle lilac and green accents that sit neatly against the muted base.

About this fabric

Woven in 95% cotton and 5% linen, this fabric has the natural, slightly matte handle you can see in the swatch. The design repeats in a medium-scale thistle motif, with mauve-lilac petals, sage-green leaves and a dusky green stem set across the 138cm usable width. At 230gsm, it has enough body for curtains, blinds and soft furnishings while still reading as a versatile textile rather than a heavy upholstery cloth. The overall effect is cool, understated and refined, with the purple notes softened by the grey ground instead of appearing bright or jewel-like. Dry clean only and iron safe.

How to use it

Use Firth Purple where you want a botanical pattern with a subdued, contemporary edge: it works especially well on tailored curtains or Roman blinds. The soft grey base makes it easy to pair with pale oak, putty neutrals and other muted lilac accents.

A muted lilac-grey ground makes the thistle motif feel elegant rather than rustic.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Firth purple without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
