Icaria Birch

Icaria and Boho Velvets VelvetSAF0073-02

Icaria Birch reads as a deep, muted olive velvet with a bark-like vertical striation that gives the surface real movement. The tone feels earthy and slightly weathered, with darker brown-black lines cutting through the pile.

About this fabric

This Sanderson velvet has a substantial 570 gsm body and a usable width of 140 cm, making it a strong choice for upholstered pieces. The design shows a strong horizontal repeat of 70 cm, while the surface itself is dominated by vertical, almost dripping streaks that give the olive ground a rugged, natural rhythm. The colourway is not a flat green: it shifts between mossy olive, khaki warmth and shadowy charcoal-brown lines as the pile catches the light. With no performance finish noted, it suits decorative upholstery where its dense texture and dramatic surface can be properly seen.

How to use it

Pair Icaria Birch with oak, walnut or smoked timber and keep surrounding fabrics plain so the textured olive ground stays the focal point. Its earthy depth also works well alongside brass, bronze or black accents in a calm, tailored scheme.

Use with warm woods and matte metals to let the olive velvet’s vertical movement feel grounded and tailored.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
