About this colour

This shade reads as a warm, clay-red with muted depth, closer to burnt terracotta than a clear primary red. On a wall it absorbs a fair amount of light, so it can make a room feel enclosed and intimate without looking heavy. In north-facing light the brown base comes forward and the colour can look deeper and more subdued; in south-facing rooms it warms up and shows more of its red character. It sits well beside natural oak, dark walnut, aged brass and fabrics in oatmeal, russet, camel or deep green. In Active Emulsion it will suit walls that need a softer, more lived-in look, while Waterbased Eggshell will give woodwork a neat, practical finish.

How to use it

Use Bengal Red in a library, dining room or snug where you want the walls to hold the room together. It is especially good with painted joinery, leather seating and upholstered pieces in moss, tan or quiet cream.

A warm, muted red like this brings depth to a wall without feeling harsh.
