Rio Midnight

Rio Velvets VelvetBP10628.5

Rio Midnight combines a deep charcoal ground with taupe, olive and softened stone tones in a densely arranged geometric and ornamental design. Its plush velvet surface gives the intricate pattern a gently shadowed, tactile quality.

About this fabric

The design is built from repeating vertical panels of diamonds, stepped geometrics, scrolling curls and small horizontal border motifs, creating a richly layered textile with a distinctly architectural rhythm. In this Midnight colourway, near-black charcoal areas sit alongside weathered taupe, muted olive and pale grey-beige details, so the pattern reads deep and atmospheric rather than brightly contrasted. Made from 55% viscose and 45% cotton, the velvet is 136 cm wide and has a 50,000 Martindale rub test. The 92 cm vertical repeat and 68 cm horizontal repeat should be considered when planning upholstery, curtains or bedspreads.

How to use it

Use Rio Midnight on a statement chair, sofa or upholstered headboard where its charcoal depth can anchor a room, then pick up its muted olive and taupe accents in cushions or painted joinery. As curtains, its dense pattern and velvet pile will create a dramatic, cocooning backdrop.

A richly patterned velvet that brings charcoal depth and layered, timeworn character to upholstery, curtains and bedspreads.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Rio Midnight without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
