Dorton Chesnut
Dorton Velvets VelvetSAF0312-34
Dorton Chesnut is a deeply warm brown velvet with a soft, low sheen that gives the surface a rich, cocooning feel. In this colourway, the pile reads as chestnut with subtle red undertones rather than a flat brown.

About this fabric
This plain velvet from Sanderson’s Dorton Velvets collection has a substantial 405gsm handle and a generous usable width of 148 cm, making it well suited to upholstery. The cloth shows no pattern repeat, so the focus stays on the depth of the pile and the way light lifts the warmer chestnut notes across the surface. Seen here, the colour sits between brown and russet, with a mellow, slightly smoked finish that feels refined rather than glossy. The high thread count of 102 threads per cm supports the dense, smooth appearance visible in the swatch. With no performance features noted, it is best specified for interiors where its rich tone can be appreciated on seating, cushions or panelled pieces.
How to use it
Use this chestnut velvet to add warmth to walnut, oak or dark painted joinery, where its red-brown depth will feel especially luxurious. It also works well as an anchoring accent against cream linens, tobacco leathers or muted olive tones.
A rich chestnut velvet that brings warmth and depth to tailored seating or statement cushions.

Pairs well with
Dorton Chesnut is a quiet cloth, so it carries a pattern beside it: one of these on the curtains and this on the chair. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it
Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
