Dorton Velvets VelvetSAF0312-38

Dorton Carbon is a near-black velvet with a quietly reflective surface that softens the depth of the shade. The pile catches the light just enough to reveal a subtle movement across the cloth.

About this fabric

This colourway reads as a very deep carbon black rather than a flat jet black, with faint tonal variation in the velvet pile visible where the light skims the surface. At 405 gsm, it has the substantial weight expected of an upholstery velvet, while the 148 cm usable width makes it practical for larger furnishings. The fabric has no pattern repeat, so the focus stays on the rich, even finish and the way the pile shifts from matte shadow to a soft sheen. With 102 threads per cm, it presents a dense, refined face that feels polished and robust.

How to use it

Use it on tailored sofas, ottomans, or dining chairs where the dark surface can anchor the room. It pairs well with pale stone, walnut, or brass accents to bring out the velvet’s low sheen.

A sleek dark velvet that brings depth and polish to clean-lined seating.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
