Dorton Aubergine

Dorton Velvets VelvetSAF0312-43

Dorton Aubergine is a deep, quietly lustrous velvet in a rich aubergine plum. The colour reads dark and enveloping, with a soft sheen that lifts the pile as the light moves across it.

About this fabric

Part of Sanderson’s Dorton Velvets collection, this is a plain velvet with no pattern repeat, so the appeal lies in its depth of colour and tactile surface rather than motif. At 405gsm and 102 threads per cm, it has the substantial handle and dense finish expected of an upholstery velvet, and the 148cm usable width gives good coverage for larger pieces. The shade is a restrained plum-purple with a warm brown undertone, which keeps it elegant rather than bright or jewel-like. Light catches the pile subtly, creating tonal movement across the surface without breaking the overall richness.

How to use it

Use this aubergine velvet to add depth to a sofa, armchair or headboard, especially in rooms with brass, walnut or painted dark wood. It works particularly well as a grounding accent against pale neutrals, where the colour looks especially saturated and velvety.

A rich velvet tone for statement seating or a dramatic upholstered headboard.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
