About this colour

This shade reads as a soft, muted green-brown with a beige base, so it feels natural rather than sharp. The #BCB797 value keeps it light enough to lift a room, but the olive note stops it from looking pale or chalky. In north-facing light it can turn a little cooler and more sage-like, with the beige side taking a back seat. In south-facing rooms it shows more warmth and depth, making it feel closer to dried fennel seed or weathered parchment. It sits comfortably beside oak, walnut, linen tones and upholstery in moss, camel or muted rust, and the finish options suit both walls and woodwork.

How to use it

Use Fennel in a sitting room, study or hall where you want a gentle colour that does not overpower the furnishings. It works well with painted joinery, natural wood floors and upholstered pieces in tobacco, flax or soft brown shades.
