About this colour

At #877D73, Raw Umber reads as a muted warm taupe with a clear brown undertone and a soft grey restraint, so it feels steady rather than muddy. It absorbs more light than it reflects, which gives it a composed, close-toned finish on large wall areas. In a north-facing room it can lean cooler and more stone-like, while in south light the warmer brown comes forward and the colour feels deeper and richer. It works well beside oak, walnut and dark painted joinery, and it has enough softness to sit comfortably with patterned linen, brushed wool and muted leather. In Acrylic Eggshell, Elite Emulsion or True Matt, it keeps the same quiet depth across walls and woodwork.

How to use it

Raw Umber suits sitting rooms, studies and hallways where you want a colour with weight but not darkness. It pairs naturally with walnut furniture, oak joinery, and upholstery in camel, tobacco, olive and softened cream tones.

A calm brown-grey that settles well on walls and sits easily with timber.

Pairs well with

Raw Umber is a wall colour, so these are the cloths that sit against it: one of them on the curtains, the paint behind. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.
