About this fabric

This plain velvet has no visible pattern repeat, allowing its intense carnelian colour and fine, even pile to take centre stage. Its 540 gsm weight gives the cloth a substantial, dense appearance suited to upholstered furniture, while the 141 cm usable width supports practical cutting. The directional nap creates gentle bands of light across the swatch, adding depth without introducing a motif. In the darker areas, the red reads as deep and slightly wine-toned; where the pile turns towards the light, it becomes warmer and more vivid.

How to use it

Use Carnelian on a statement armchair, sofa or upholstered headboard where its deep red tone can act as the room’s focal colour. Balance the velvet’s warm intensity with aged timber, smoked metal or quiet neutral walls, and let the changing pile provide the visual movement.

Its rich carnelian tone and softly shifting pile bring depth and a luxurious finish to upholstered seating.

Pairs well with

Performance Velvets Carnelian is a quiet cloth, so it carries a pattern beside it: one of these on the curtains and this on the chair. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
