Dorton Indigo is a dense, plush velvet in a very deep indigo navy, with a softly pared-back surface that absorbs light rather than flashing it back. The colour reads dark and cool, with just enough blue to keep the shade from becoming flat black.

About this fabric

This Sanderson velvet is supplied on a 148 cm usable width and has no pattern repeat, making the plain face easy to work into tailored upholstery schemes. At 405 gsm and 102 threads per cm, it has the substantial, closely packed handle you expect from a proper furniture velvet. In this colourway, the pile sits in a midnight indigo tone: blue-led, shadowy and refined, with a soft sheen that appears only when the light catches it. The result is a fabric that feels elegant and grounded rather than bright or glossy.

How to use it

Dorton Indigo works beautifully on statement seating, a buttoned headboard or a deep, tailored ottoman where its dark blue depth can be seen up close. Pair it with warm wood, brushed metal and pale wall colours to sharpen the rich navy mood.

Use with pale oak, brass or chalky neutrals to let the depth of colour read clearly.
