King's Velvet Charcoal

Historic Royal Palaces VelvetBF10658.985

King's Velvet Charcoal is a deep, near-black velvet with a cool blue-green cast. Its softly mottled surface shifts subtly as the pile catches the light, giving the plain colour quiet depth.

About this fabric

This substantial velvet combines 69% viscose, 19% cotton and 12% polyester, with a 50,000 Martindale rub test for dependable upholstery use. The 140 cm (55") width also makes it suitable for curtains and bedspreads, as well as loose and fixed upholstery. In the swatch, charcoal is softened by blue-green undertones and cloudy changes in the pile rather than a flat, uniform black. The low-contrast texture gives the colour a moody, refined finish that becomes richer in shaded areas and gently luminous where the nap faces the light.

How to use it

Use this cool charcoal on a statement armchair, sofa or headboard where its dense, light-shifting pile can provide depth without introducing a visible pattern. It also creates atmospheric full-length curtains or bedspreads when paired with pale stone, smoked blue or warm timber tones.

A dark, richly textured velvet with a cool blue-green cast, suited to tailored upholstery and dramatic curtains.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
