About this fabric

Part of the Modena collection by J Brown, this plain fabric is woven in 100% polyester and specified for contract use, with a hard-wearing 80,000 Martindale rating. The swatch shows a deep midnight black ground softened by subtle, irregular tonal flecks that give the cloth a gently weathered look rather than a flat solid colour. Its back-coated Cigarette & Match to BS5852 specification makes it suitable for projects where fire performance matters, and it can be professionally dry cleaned in situ or washed at 40°C, subject to the pattern book guidance. The surface has a low-key sheen in places, which helps the darker shade feel rich and dimensional.

How to use it

Use Modena Midnight on a clean-lined sofa or banquette to bring depth without visual noise. It works especially well with pale timber, brushed metal, and warm stone finishes that lift the near-black tone.

Use for tailored seating and statement pieces where the dark, subtly mottled surface adds depth.
