Mellar Old Blue

Romilly FabricF4925-03

About this fabric

Mellar Old Blue from the Romilly collection by Colefax and Fowler is woven in a 79% Cotton, 12% Polyester, 9% Viscose blend with an approximate width of 138cm and a vertical repeat of 32cm / horizontal repeat of 34cm. The surface reads as a dense, peppered texture rather than a bold motif, with the old blue marking sitting just above a warm neutral base. In the photo, the colour feels muted and slightly dusty, so the overall effect is soft and settled rather than bright or coastal. It is a versatile fabric type with no performance features noted, and the blend gives it enough body for relaxed upholstery as well as decorative curtains. The small repeat and low-contrast pattern make it easy to use across larger pieces without the design becoming overpowering.

How to use it

Use this colourway on an armchair, ottoman or lined curtains where the soft blue-grey will calm timber and stone surfaces. It pairs well with chalky whites, putty neutrals and deeper navy accents for a layered, tailored room.

A quietly worn blue ground that works beautifully with pale oak, limestone and brushed metal finishes.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
