King's Velvet Sapphire

Historic Royal Palaces VelvetBF10658.648

King's Velvet Sapphire has a dense, dark sapphire ground with smoky blue-grey shifts across the pile. Its softly mottled surface changes gently as the nap catches the light, giving this plain velvet considerable depth.

About this fabric

This velvet is woven in a richly saturated blue that reads cooler and almost ink-like in the darker areas, while brushed sections reveal muted slate and blue-grey highlights. The close, softly lustrous pile is visibly directional, creating subtle horizontal and cloudy tonal movement rather than a printed motif. Composed of 69% viscose, 19% cotton and 12% polyester, it is 140 cm wide and rated to 50,000 Martindale rubs. The supplied usage includes curtains, loose upholstery, fixed upholstery and bedspreads; care is professional dry cleaning only, with no washing, bleaching or ironing.

How to use it

Use this deep sapphire shade to bring a dramatic, cocooning note to a sofa, headboard or occasional chair, especially against warm timber, aged brass or pale stone. Full curtains or a bedspread will emphasise the velvet’s shifting blue-grey nap and luxurious depth.

A deep, atmospheric sapphire velvet with subtle tonal movement for richly coloured upholstery, curtains or bedspreads.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
