Samphrey Check Russet

Islay Wools FabricSAF0270-05

Samphrey Check Russet shows a classic checked wool with a warm, weathered depth. The russet ground is lifted by softer ochre and tan bands, giving the pattern a lived-in tartan feel rather than a sharp graphic one.

About this fabric

Woven as part of Sanderson’s Islay Wools collection, this fabric has a substantial 383 gsm handle and a dense 27.5 threads per cm construction, which supports its suitability for upholstery. The visible surface has a softly brushed, woollen texture that mutes the check and lets the colours blend at the edges. Russet red dominates the palette, with earthy beige and toasted ochre squares breaking through the darker crossing lines. The 30 cm vertical repeat and 28 cm horizontal repeat create a generously scaled check that reads clearly across cushions, chairs and banquettes.

How to use it

This russet colourway works well on a country armchair, bench cushion or headboard where its warm red tone can add depth without feeling bright. Set it against oat, tan or dark timber finishes to let the check feel grounded and inviting.

Pair with aged oak, leather and warm neutrals for a heritage, fireside feel.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
