About this colour

This shade reads cool rather than bright, with enough grey in it to soften the blue and keep it from feeling sugary. In north-facing light it deepens and can edge towards a muted ink-blue, while in south-facing rooms it lifts to show more of its blue note and a cleaner slate quality. It absorbs a fair amount of light, so it gives depth without turning black or overly heavy. In Acrylic Eggshell, Elite Emulsion or True Matt, it works well beside pale oak, walnut, brushed metal and printed linens in chalky or natural tones.

How to use it

Use Velvet Blue in a sitting room, study or hallway where you want the walls to feel composed and a little formal. It suits timber joinery, navy or stone upholstery, and curtains in cream, flax or softened green.

On a wall, Velvet Blue brings a cool slate-blue tone with quiet depth.
